South Asia

This region includes the Indian Sub-Continent and Afghanistan. Burma is shown separately under South-East Asia. Except for the few postcards by Christian missionaries, Tibet is shown separately under East Asia. Virtually all of the collections here date from the colonial period. In the Postcard and Photograph sections there are a number of collections around the theme of the 1911 Durbar, Indian trades and European protestant and catholic missions in Ceylon and India. The European Popular Culture sections contains many collections sourced from a number of different countries around a number of themes. Lastly, the Children’s Books and Comics section contains a wide array of material all from European sources.
