1916 -1917 Album of French officer responsible for rail transport on the Eastern Front in the Salonica region. The album has 27 pages containing approximately 262 6 x 4cm photographs, and 50 ages with almost 146 13 x 8cm photographs, a number being unglued. The Salonika Expedition, or Eastern Front, took place from 1915 to 1918, and was intended to support the Serbian army against Bulgaria and to open a second front to offload the western front. The photographer is based in Topsin (roughly 30km from Thessaloniki. Right off we see that he employes Tonkin trailleurs (no doubt due to the shortage of manpower. Many photographs of the installations and the station there, a car track, depots of ammunition and material, accidents. He moves to Goumenitza, Thessaloniki, Sorovichevo, Ostrovory and to the viaduct Exisson, where the Baghdad-Berlin line was cut (you can see the destruction). A number of senior French military are named, military cemeteries, Doctor Antonelli of the 59th Regiment, Indochinese trailleurs offloading ammunition, Greek refugees, Novigrad.
