American card set Red Menace, by Bowman Gum, done in 1951. This was one of the most popular and colorful trading card sets of the post World War 2 era. This series was a product of the ‘scare years’ which saw communist takeovers in Eastern Europe, the invasion of Korea, Russian A bomb tests, and the emergence of Leftist Movements in Latin America and South-East Asia. Each card has the sub-heading ‘Children’s Crusade against Communism’ printed on the back at the top. Some of the cards, like 19 ‘Atomic Doom’ and 23 ‘Ghost City’ are frightening. This is a complete set of 48 cards assembled after years of searching. Very rare. MB ah
